Intentional living isn’t about chasing perfection or checking off some idealized list of what a “good life” should look like. It’s not about aesthetics or appearances, it’s about alignment. It’s about choosing, on purpose, the kind of life that feels nourishing to you and your family.
For us, that looks like slowing down, way down. It means tuning into the daily rhythm of our home, our land, and our bodies, and asking with curiosity (not shame):
“Is this actually working for us?”
And if the answer is no?
Then we pivot. We get creative. We build something new, even if it’s messy or countercultural. Because intentional living takes bravery. It means saying no to what’s not working, even when it’s what everyone else seems to be doing. It means making peace with being different, because we’ve chosen to live rooted in what actually fits for us, not just what’s familiar or expected.
Intentional living asks us to trade “should” for “soul.” It’s not about who we think we’re supposed to be; it’s about who we already are, and how we can nurture a life that honors that.
Here on the homestead, that might look like:
• Letting the garden grow wild and imperfect because our energy is better spent with our kids that day
• Choosing slow breakfasts over rushing to pack in too many activities
• Saying no to hustle culture and yes to quiet mornings, homegrown meals, and meaningful routines
• Re-evaluating systems regularly so our life supports us, not the other way around
The truth is, intentional living is deeply personal. What feels right for us might look completely different from what feels right for you, and that’s exactly the point. It’s not one-size-fits-all. It’s your values, your season, your family, your needs.
So if you’ve ever felt like you’re just going through the motions, or like you’re living someone else’s version of life. I hope this reminds you that there’s another way.
You get to pause.
You get to ask questions.
You get to choose, again and again, what kind of life you want to build.
And here at Scherer Homestead, we’re doing just that, one intentional choice at a time.
This exploration of intentional living, this journey of choosing a life that truly nourishes, is a path we'll be walking together in the pages of Rooted Living Magazine. Our first quarterly issue is coming at the end of this month, and it's a labor of love, brimming with stories, recipes, art, and insights from our homestead, all designed to help you cultivate your own deeply intentional life. I truly can't wait to share this piece of my heart with you.
💛Rooted, resilient, and real,
